General Purpose and Scope of Position:


Wilbur-Ellis is seeking a Field Scout II to be responsible for scouting for pests in various, support Key Account Managers and other support teams in the Cascades in the execution of their duties. The Field Scout II works closely with the field sales and the operations support team. This is a seasonal position starting February 1-October 31st.


Key Skills and Abilities Include:


  • Recent graduates in Agriculture, Plant Science, or Horticulture preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience with agricultural operations (preferred)
  • Positive understanding attitude/acceptance of the need to work safely and adhere to safety policies
  • Intermediate level proficiency with standard software including MS Office Suite
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle within state laws and company policies and guidelines
  • Ability to safely operate a 4-wheeler ATV within state laws and company policies and guidelines
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills between both customers and fellow employees
  • Ability to repetitively bend, kneel and walk long distances while working in a non-climate controlled environment and outside in inclement weather
  • Excellent math skills and the ability to maintain accurate counts
  • Dependability/reliability. Occasionally may need to work Saturdays
  • Willingness and desire to work overtime hours during busy seasons

Primary Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:


  • Scout crops for pests, disease, and other items as directed by the consultant. Prepare field scouting reports in AgVerdict for consultant and grower. Report time-sensitive information via phone or text to a consultant.
  • Collect soil, fruit, tissue, other samples. Label samples and deliver to the office for processing and shipment to the lab. Complete TNS sample orders/other processing paperwork as directed.
  • Secondary Responsibilities and Key Deliverables May Include:
  • Prepare traps for placement in the field
  • Install traps in fields. Inspect and monitor on a weekly basis.
  • Check SWD, Leafhopper, other pest traps not included in the core Codling Moth trapping program.
  • Maintain data counts of the number of pests trapped
  • Use GPS technology to map fields
  • Comply with company safety standards
  • Collaborate with other support teams in the Cascades
  • Assist with return bloom sampling, bud hardiness and fruit maturity testing.
  • Assist with SoilOptix mapping.
  • Assist with agronomy, entomology, horticultural and other research trials.
  • Attend/assist meetings, training sessions, other as to develop employee skills and experience.
  • Other duties as assigned
